Chapter 38: Not So Easy, Birdy!

“Surprise Motherfucker!”

Blake didn’t know why he said it, but just as he launched his body forward as powerful as possible, he got the sudden urge to shout the words out loud when his body was still in mid-air, flying straight towards the huge crow.

But his mouth wasn’t the only thing that was moving, his two hands were also rapidly drawing two different sets of runes right after his feet left the earth pillar.

The two runes were familiar runes that he used to draw and Blake was able to finish drawing those two sets of runes even before he lost the initial momentum that he got from kicking the earth pillar to jump toward the crow.

The runes that he drew with his right hand flashed for a moment before the spell manifested itself.

The air around the huge crow began to be filled with nether as darkness tendrils began to pop out of thin air and started moving towards the crow, aiming themselves to latch onto its huge body.

The spell that Blake had just cast was Vera’s original spell, the modified darkness binding spell that could automatically detect the location of a creature, and it had made the crow its target.

.....

The crow was initially startled when Blake suddenly appeared out of nowhere and flew directly towards it, but the distance between Blake and the crow was quite far away from each other, and with Blake’s speed being not his best suit, the crow had more than enough time to regain its focus and realize the gathering nether around its body.

It then remembered the familiar feeling that it felt last time when hundreds of darkness tendrils suddenly came and tried to assault it, so the moment it felt the nether around its body becoming denser, the crow didn’t have a slight hesitation to start flapping its wings to get away from its current place as soon as possible.

It wouldn’t be impossible for the crow to dodge the darkness binding spell with the speed that it could fly in with its huge and strong wings. However, Blake already expected such a thing to happen, hence why his left hand was already prepared with another darkness element spell.

It was the spell that he usually used to grab onto the thick tree branch so that he could pull himself up easily and move from one tree to another, which means that it was strong enough to at least handle his body weight effortlessly.

But now that the spell was aimed towards the crow’s neck instead of a tree branch, the spell had become much more than just a transportation tool for him.

“Not so easy, birdy!” Blake yanked his left hand as hard as he could when the darkness tendril had successfully wrapped itself around the crow’s neck.

The power of Blake’s hands wasn’t anything special as the dark earth armor didn’t really give him a buff on his strength, he only got a minor strength boost when he first made the covenant with Robus.

But with the darkness tendril firmly wrapped around the crow’s neck, even Blake’s meager strength was enough to temporarily freeze the crow’s movement for a whole second as the crow tried to regain its balance after having its brain jerked away from its body.

And that one whole second was all the time that Blake needed for the binding spell to do its work.

The moment the first darkness tendril successfully latched itself onto the crow’s body and began pressing down on its body, wrapping itself around the crow’s wings, the other darkness tendrils also followed suit and started latching themselves everywhere on the crow’s body, wrapping all parts of the crow’s body from dozens of different angles, trying to fold the crow’s huge body into a ball.

Blake, who was now going faster than ever to the crow because his darkness tendril had pulled himself straight onto the crow’s head, already had his right hand busy drawing another set of runes.

And this time, what he drew were the runes for the ordinary darkness bullet spell.

When his feet landed on top of the crow’s head and the crow had started losing its ability to fly because of the darkness binding spell holding onto its body, Blake quickly aimed his right hand towards the crow’s head and finished the runes for the darkness bullet spell.

The small condensed ball of darkness element formed in front of his hand and quickly launched itself forward, straight into the crow’s skull.

Blake had already got a gist of how strong the crow’s body was because his earlier darkness bullets weren’t even enough to blast a gaping hole through the crow’s body, but seeing that even shooting a darkness bullet from point-blank was not enough to pierce through the crow’s skull, only enough to destroy its fur and skin and expose the round skull beneath it, Blake was slightly taken aback by the sheer toughness of the creature.

‘How high is its physique stat to have this level of toughness?’ The darkness bullet was able to blast a hole through a tree trunk if it was shot from a point-blank range, but the most that it can do to the crow was destroy its fur and skin, which means that the fur and skin of the crow were tougher than a tree trunk.

‘I guess I need to put more love into my physique stat...’

Blake was about to draw another demonic rune to cast another darkness bullet when he suddenly saw the crow’s body that was already caged inside the darkness tendrils start glowing once again.

And when he focused on the crow’s body between the darkness tendrils, he could see that it was the crow’s wings once again that released the glow.

It looked very similar to when the crow was about to launch the wind tornado, and it made Blake stop whatever he was about to do and jump off of the crow’s body.

He didn’t know how the crow would be able to create the wind tornado with its wings being pressed onto its own body by the darkness tendrils, but glancing at the ground beneath him and seeing the destruction that had happened, Blake didn’t want to take any chances and gamble with his life and just jump off the bird’s body.

And his choice turned out to be the correct one as even though its whole body was being restricted by the darkness tendrils, the crow used the momentum while its body fell and spun its body around as fast as possible.

And when the crow was halfway towards crashing onto the ground, it finally reached a certain speed, and a visible greenish wind appeared covering its whole body.

Once the greenish wind appeared, the wind tore down the darkness tendrils that pressed the crow’s body in just a split second. Releasing the crow completely from the darkness binding spell’s grasp.
