Chapter 22

The people around started giving Qiao Weimin unfriendly looks, and Ms. Kim bluntly said that she needed to talk to him about Jing Yunzhao.

“What is there to talk about? What can you do about it if I insist that she quit school?” Qiao Weimin demanded angrily.

“There is nothing we can do if you insist, provided that you are a suitable guardian for Jing Yunzhao. However, Jing Yunzhao is the top student of our school; I am sure you never had to pay for her tuition fees, so what right do you have to make her quit school when she attended on her own abilities?” Ms. Kim asked sternly.

“What is wrong with all of you? So what if I never had to pay for her tuition fees? Didn’t I raise her for over ten years? Look at how she behaved and humiliated the name of the Qiao Family!” Not expecting the withdrawal procedure to be so troublesome, Qiao Weimin was on the verge of losing his temper.

The teachers did not normally interfere with family affairs. Usually, they would have just sympathized with Jing Yunzhao and done nothing further, but Qiao Weimin had gone overboard.

He had criticized the teachers’ ethics the moment he stepped into the school, and it made the teachers determined to fix the situation to shut Qiao Weimin up.

By right, one could approach the town council and petition to terminate Qiao Weimin’s guardianship of Jing Yunzhao if they had sufficient evidence that Qiao Weimin was not suitable. It was actually not a complicated procedure, now that they thought about it.

“You think I misbehaved? Fine, I believe one of the teachers mentioned that those gangsters have been arrested and I’m sure the interrogations would have been settled by now. Let’s go find out what the truth really is since I have to drop by the police station to identify those gangsters anyway,” said Jing Yunzhao coldly.

“Let’s go then, you shameless child. I swear I will teach you a lesson when we get home!” Qiao Weimin threatened viciously.

Jing Yunzhao was not bothered at all. Home? Who said she was going back to the place he called ‘home’?

Jing Yunzhao’s situation quickly became a big deal when the gossip about the top student in school spread like wildfire. Knowing that not handling it properly could damage the school’s reputation, the school principal decided to go to the police station with Ms. Kim, Jing Yunzhao, and Qiao Weimin.

Having been informed about their coming beforehand, a police officer handed the documents to the principal and the others the moment they arrived at the police station.

“Are they the ones, Jing Yunzhao?” A police officer asked gently.

Jing Yunzhao frowned as she tried to recall the episode that happened in her previous life. It took her a while but she eventually realized that one of the gangsters was missing.

“There were six of them before this but there are only five of them here now. The missing guy should be their leader since all of them listened to him,” Jing Yunzhao explained to the police officer and her school principal.

“Are you sure?” The police officer asked, surprised.

“Yes, it was a young man who seemed to be in his early twenties. He was wearing stud earrings and looked quite average,” said Jing Yunzhao slowly.

The man was an average-looking guy, so that would make the search difficult. Who knew if he had fled to another place after the rest of his gang was arrested?

Although the gangsters’ offences were mostly minor and a few of them were actually underage, there were policemen who pointed out that they had seen them attempting to rape before. It was a stain that would forever be on their record if they really were convicted for attempted rape.

“That’s bad. These gangsters are not quite known in this area, so I am sure all they had done was petty theft. They probably would never have ended up in a police station if they were lucky. God knows why they did what they did this time but rest assured, we will try our best to arrest the one that is missing. Don’t get your hopes high up though; it’s been a while and he might be far away by now.”

It was a pity that one of them had gotten away with it, but Jing Yunzhao knew that what the police officer said was true.

“Fled? Play dumb all you want, Jing Yunzhao, but you left home at 7am this morning and got to the school only in the afternoon. What did you do during that time? Did you spend those few hours with that missing gangster to do shameful things?” Qiao Weimin asked suddenly.
